It’s a record!

The 10th Annual PartnerRe Women’s 5K saw a record 1,100 participants take part in the popular run and walk to raise money for female causes in Bermuda.

From among a class field of women athletes, Victoria Fiddick was this year’s winner, in a time of 19:19. She was followed by Kelly Larrett in 20:07, and Kim McMullen in 20.18. Weather conditions were near-perfect, with slightly cooler temperatures due to cloud cover.

Young Jazmine Outerbridge led the under-16 pack around the Juniors’ 3.2K course, finishing in a time of 11:40. She won her age group, as did Rebecca Heyliger and Gabriella Arnold.

In the Competitive Walk, Davina Dickinson was first, in 32:53, followed by Lynn Norman (36:08) and Tori Powell (36:39).

For the first year, a chip timing system was used, with competitors wearing computerised anklets to record their pace. Some 600 women and girls also turned out for the 5K Fun Walk along the same course, some pushing baby strollers or accompanied by pet dogs.

Bermuda High School won the Schools Award, a $500 cash prize given to the school with the most finishers. BHS saw a turnout of close to 100 pupils.

Among company teams, the 17 staff from Saltus Grammar School were tops, winning the Corporate Trophy. Other firms with large contingents included PartnerRe, Bank of Bermuda HSBC, Catlin and Olympia Capital.

2007 Proceeds to:

Bermuda Cancer & Health Centre’s Digital Mammography Equipment Fund

The event has raised more than $120,000 for women’s charities since 1998, supporting initiatives to battle breast cancer, heart disease, physical abuse and other female-related causes in Bermuda. All proceeds this year go to the Bermuda Cancer & Health Centre’s Digital Mammography Equipment Fund.
